How to Find Interesting People to Follow on Twitter
One thing special about twitter is the endless stream of useful information. By following positive hard working individuals you will be exposed to an endless stream of useful information about your area of interest. To find people to follow that inspire you try a search at http://search.twitter.com for your favorite thing like cooking or marketing or hiking and you will find interesting tweets with your search term. Then click on the picture and go to the users profile and see if they are someone you want to follow. Once you find someone that interests you, check out who they follow by clicking on their following link under their picture and look at who they are following. You can click on the picture of the person to go and check out their profile and see if they are someone you want to follow. I suggest finding about 20 new people to follow each day for a week if you are doing it for a business. Some people only follow their real friends and a few celebrities.
http://twitter.com/invitations/find_on_twitter Twitter offers to search your email contact list to see if anyone is on twitter registered with the email address you have. Twitter then has an easy way to follow all the contacts found on twitter. If you are looking for someone specific, try searching their name in search.twitter.com try it a few ways like @ClayFranklin, ClayFranklin, Clay Franklin. This works for people that use their real name. Many twitter users use the name of their business or interest. You can also try this search on Google and even try, person name twitter, in the Google search window.
http://wefollow.com There are a lot of twitter search sites, one I like in particular is wefollow.com. It is a great site to find twitters with the same interest as you. Type in your interest and all people who registered there under that term will show up. The ones with the highest follower count show up first so click see more at the bottom and you can see everyone who registered in that category. The homepage shows the most popular categories and top number of followers. It is interesting to see who has the most followers and then go look at their profile and read some of their tweets and see if you want to follow them also.
http://Twitterlocal.com is another site that offers suggestions on who to follow based on your location. You can find people in your city, or any particular city, state or zip code. Then you can expand the search to include a area within a range of miles from your search area or location.
http://www.twellow.com is the twitter yellow pages. What is nice about twellow is that you can go to your area of interest and find the top twitter users in that category. Say you go to media, then sub category social media then sub category social media training and you get a listing of over 300 people in this category. Include your city and state in your twitter profile so you can be found when others search your city and state.
http://mrtweet.com Follow Mr. Tweet and he will send you direct messages with recommended people to follow.
http://twitter.grader.com is fun to find your twitter grade but also has a wonderful database you can access for free. Click on the Twitter Elite tab and check out what they have to offer. I like the top twitter users by location function and have used it to find twitter users in my geographic area. The search is also a useful tool if you have a keyword or name you are looking for.
http://twibs.com is a good search tool to find businesses on twitter. They have a search box to search your favorite businesses. It retrieves the business and the latest tweets from the company. When you click on the business logo, they bring up twitter followers that relate to the business. This is another interesting and fun place to poke around and see what businesses are tweeting.
http://www.twazzup.com is a good search tool to find people on twitter who share your interest. Search your term and see what others are posting about it. When you click on the picture of the person, it brings up their latest tweet.
Another place to find fun people to follow is by going to your friends profile pages on facebook and check if you are following all your friends. Often the link to follow your Facebook friend on twitter is posted on their facebook profile page.
