This is one of my favorite Twitter Tools. I do not auto follow on my personal account, yet I do for my business account. This free Twitter tool will auto follow for you, it will delete auto DM’s automatically, it will even allow you to schedule future Tweets. It is a big time saver and improves twitter ease of use.

Best Twitter Search Tool on the Internet

This tool is not that easy to use, yet it is so very powerful. It is the very best tool I have found to search Twitter or the internet for any keyword or phrase. This is a very powerful Yahoo tool called Yahoo Pipes.

Twitpic is a picture sharing site that hosts your pictures for free and will tweet your picture for you automatically when you upload your picture. A picture says a thousand words so using TwitPic with TwitterTwitter helps tell your story.

How to Twitter more effectivley is a question I often get asked. I used to tweet a lot about what I was eating or doing. Then I realized that to be more effective at Tweeting it was important to Tweet something of value for your followers. You can get Re-tweeted more and gain more followers by Tweeting interesting or trend setting Tweets.

1) Be Re-Tweetable

- Tweet interesting, inspirational, or valuable information. Only use up about 110 of the available characters in the tweet so there is room for others to Re-Tweet you.

2) Re-Tweet interesting Tweets

that you think your followers will value. If you Re-Tweet other peoples Tweets, they are more likely to Re-Tweet you Tweets. When you Re-Tweet, add a short comment in front of the RT to show who you are and what you think.

3) Use Twitter to meet people, then direct them to your blog

to continue the conversation. Be sure to use your blog as your Twitter URL for people to find out more about you. Once they are on your blog, you can direct them to your sales page or product page. Do not use a sales page as your Twitter URL because Twitter is about the conversation not just sales.

4) Twitter is a great sales tool for affiliates and businesses.

It is important to give away great value before you try to sell something. Provide at least 7 tweets of value inbetween tweets that offer to sell something or send people to a sales page. On the sales page offer something of value in exchange for their email address.

5) Tweet a story and use Twitpic.com to show a picture that continues the story.

Do not tweet a lot of pictures of food. Cars, Birds, Animals Flowers, Famous places are more interesting that a picture of food. These types of Tweets help people get to know you or your business.

6) Be sure to thank people when they Re-Tweet your tweets,

it shows appreciation and that you care. It builds the relationship with your followers and they will be more likely to Re-Tweet you in the future. It helps them feel appreciated for Re-Tweeting your tweet.

7) Quality Tweets move you up in respect in the eyes of your followers.

Followers will pay more attention to you because you provide value instead of just sales pitches or boring things like “I am tired”.

8) Follow back only the people that you find interesting.

You can look at your new followers by clicking followers and look at the last tweet. If it is interesting, you can go to their page and see if the Tweet Stream looks interesting to you. Only follow them back if they tweet interesting, funny, usefull things or they are someone you wnat to get to know or they are a friend.

9) Use Twitter as chat instead of status updates.

Join the conversation instead of just putting in status updates of “what are you doing right now”.

10) Talk to just one person in your tweet.

Do not say “what is everybody doing”. Say I something like “Reading a realy great article on “put your topic here” ” and provide a link to the article. Bit.ly is a great free tool to shorten links and you can see how many people clicked on it. If you wrtite tweets like newspaper or magazine headlines they will capture attention and be interesting to followers.

If twitter is taking too long for you to manage, you can sign up for a free account for a twitter management tool that will let you auto follow and you can exclude certain words in who they folllow. You can also set it up to delete all automatic Direct Messages from new followers.

It’s Twitter. And whether you like it or not (yet) it’s going to be around in some form or another for a long time I suspect. Might as well get used to it, right?

A couple of months ago I was in the same boat many of you might be in right now, wondering whether all this Twitter madness was of any use to me at all or whether it was just a bunch of noise, literally. But I started to hear a lot of Twitter related stories and talked to people that I personally know who were using it in ways that I hadn’t considered before.

And the lightbulb finally went off for me. There was some serious power in Twitter! People were not only using Twitter to make connections and network with others, they were making money too. Some of them making LOTS of it as I came to find out.

The biggest thing that stood out for me is this…

From a marketing perspective, Twitter = Listbuilding. Plain and simple. Proper listbuilding is all about building a list AND building relationships with the people on that list. And in many cases the people I was talking to confided in me that their Twitter contacts were more responsive than even their e-mail lists were. As a long time email marketer, I was pretty shocked. But I started doing research and I discovered several truths that I want to share with you.

There’s a right way and a wrong way to go about using Twitter, and some rules of thumb to keep in mind along the way. But there are several crucial steps you’ll want to take note of.
Here’s how this works:

1. Get followers.
Sounds simple right? But there’s a lot of stuff out there that will make you think you can just automate the process and be done with it. BEWARE, Twitter is watching. If you do it wrong, you’re sunk. Account Suspended. Tweet no more.

2. Build a relationship with your followers.
Yes, that’s right, you’re going to need to start talking with your followers! You want to treat them like you would anyone you might meet at any other social gathering, stipulating that you’re not at a professional wrestling event and everyone is already yelling at one another.   Tweet me right and tweet others like you would like to be tweeted <G>

3. Get them Clicking & ReTweeting. 
Once you build that relationship with them you want to encourage (gently) them to start clicking links you provide with items of interest and most of all to get them Retweeting your posts. Why? Because the *real* power of Twitter is NOT in your own list of followers. Nope. The real power is in the power of the exponent. If you give things of value to the Twitterverse, the Twitterverse will return the favor… Tenfold As your tweets get retweetedd the number of people that see your tweet grows exponentially.

4. Last but not least. You want to make money right? 
Of course you do. Once you’ve completed steps one through three, there are a ton of ways that you can start to monetize your followers…their followers and their followers followers. But also beware: Twitter spam is on the rise and people are becoming wary of anyone who just jumps into the pool and starts shouting “Buy my Stuff” at the top of their lungs. You have to be very careful to craft your Tweets so that people are still getting maximum value from you. You have to be part of the conversation.
Seemingly simple steps, and they’re not rocket science, but they do take some finesse and time to do properly. Twitter Tip: 7 Steps to Get People to Follow You on Twitter

1) Add a Profile picture.

It should be a close up of your face if it is your personal account or a company log if it is a business account.

2) Set up a custom background

. This can be done with the twitter profile settings or at a site like Twitbacks to create a custom looking background. You can also upload a picture, yet be sure to not click repeate and have it be a big size like 2048px wide by 1707 px tall so it fills even new wide screens.

3) Set up your Bio with your keywords seperated by commas.

If it is a personal account just list your hobbies and favorite activities in word format instead of sentences. If you are in busines, use keywords that people will use to find you and follow you. I use SEO, Internet Marketing, Blogging, and Social Media Marketing. It could also include a bit of personal infomrmation like , hiking, biking, running, cooking, guitar, piano, Mom, Dad, knitting, shoes or whatever you are into and want people to find you for.

4) Tweet on a regular basis.

Tweeting your favorite quotes with a hash tag of #quotes and be sure to include the author of the quote. Mix it up and tweet about what you are doing, ask questions that you need answers for, retweet others tweets that you think your followers will enjoy reading. one way to retweet is to copy the tweet and then past it in your tweet window and add a RT in front of the tweet and add a @ in front of the name of the person you are retweeting. You can see an example in my twitter stream over on the right.

5) Do not post a lot of links to stuff for sale.

If you want to sell stuff be sure to only have about 2 of ten tweets be links to stuff for sell. TO improve the chance someone will buy what you tweeted about send the tweet to your blog or website so they can read a review about the product or learn more about it rather than just sending them to a sales page. It will improve you conversions.

6) Do not keep tweeting the same thing over and over.

Some of my followers tweet about how to get your teeth whitnened for free every few hours. How boring, I do choose not to follow these people back.

7) Have fun and be your self.

You will enjoy tweeting more and your followers will get to know you and your personality.

How to Find Interesting People to Follow on Twitter
One thing special about twitter is the endless stream of useful information.  By following positive hard working individuals you will be exposed to an endless stream of useful information about your area of interest.  To find people to follow that inspire you try a search at http://search.twitter.com for your favorite thing like cooking or marketing or hiking and you will find interesting tweets with your search term.  Then click on the picture and go to the users profile and see if they are someone you want to follow.  Once you find someone that interests you, check out who they follow by clicking on their following link under their picture and look at who they are following.  You can click on the picture of the person to go and check out their profile and see if they are someone you want to follow.  I suggest finding about 20 new people to follow each day for a week if you are doing it for a business.  Some people only follow their real friends and a few celebrities. 

http://twitter.com/invitations/find_on_twitter  Twitter offers to search your email contact list to see if anyone is on twitter registered with the email address you have.  Twitter then has an easy way to follow all the contacts found on twitter.  If you are looking for someone specific, try searching their name in search.twitter.com try it a few ways like @ClayFranklin, ClayFranklin, Clay Franklin.  This works for people that use their real name.  Many twitter users use the name of their business or interest.  You can also try this search on Google and even try, person name twitter, in the Google search window.

http://wefollow.com There are a lot of twitter search sites, one I like in particular is wefollow.com.  It is a great site to find twitters with the same interest as you.  Type in your interest and all people who registered there under that term will show up.  The ones with the highest follower count show up first so click see more at the bottom and you can see everyone who registered in that category.  The homepage shows the most popular categories and top number of followers.  It is interesting to see who has the most followers and then go look at their profile and read some of their tweets and see if you want to follow them also.

http://Twitterlocal.com   is another site that offers suggestions on who to follow based on your location.  You can find people in your city, or any particular city, state or zip code.  Then you can expand the search to include a area within a range of miles from your search area or location.

http://www.twellow.com is the twitter yellow pages.  What is nice about twellow is that you can go to your area of interest and find the top twitter users in that category.  Say you go to media, then sub category social media then sub category social media training and you get a listing of over 300 people in this category.  Include your city and state in your twitter profile so you can be found when others search your city and state.

http://mrtweet.com Follow Mr. Tweet and he will send you direct messages with recommended people to follow.

http://twitter.grader.com is fun to find your twitter grade but also has a wonderful database you can access for free.  Click on the Twitter Elite tab and check out what they have to offer.   I like the top twitter users by location function and have used it to find twitter users in my geographic area.  The search is also a useful tool if you have a keyword or name you are looking for.

http://twibs.com is a good search tool to find businesses on twitter.  They have a search box to search your favorite businesses.  It retrieves the business and the latest tweets from the company.  When you click on the business logo, they bring up twitter followers that relate to the business.  This is another interesting and fun place to poke around and see what businesses are tweeting.

http://www.twazzup.com is a good search tool to find people on twitter who share your interest.  Search your term and see what others are posting about it.  When you click on the picture of the person, it brings up their latest tweet.
Another place to find fun people to follow is by going to your friends profile pages on facebook and check if you are following all your friends.  Often the link to follow your Facebook friend on twitter is posted on their facebook profile page.
